Ceramic Interposers

Ceramic Interposers

An interposer is an electrical interface routing between one socket or connection to another, a common example would be an integrated circuit die to BGA. For standard environments various substrates can be used including FR4 for rigid and polyimide for flexible as well as Silicon and Glass.

As the leading UK supplier of ceramic PCBs DK-Daleba have seen an upsurge in demand for Ceramic Interposers. Engineers are recognising the benefits of ceramics for more challenging applications. Over conventional substrates ceramics offer a vastly improved thermal properties with a maximum operating temperature of >800°C and a Thermal Conductivity of up to 180 W/mk. Some are turning to Ceramic Interposers when they need to be used in a hermetic package where no moisture can be tolerated, and no outgassing materials can be used.

The three main variants customers choose for Interposers and other panels are:

  • Alumina Oxide (Al2O3) PCB (96% & 99.6%), the most popular, Thermal Conductivity 24-29W/mK

  • Aluminium Nitride (AlN) Thermal Conductivity 170W/mK

  • Silicon Nitride (SiN) Thermal Conductivity Thermal Conductivity 85W/mK

Full specifications of all ceramic substrates can be found together with full manufacturing methods capabilities on our PCB Ceramics products page.

Our engineers are always available to discuss how your projects would benefit from this substrate.
